At approximately 7:39 a.m., officers responded to a report of a man experiencing a mental health crisis, who was alone in his home on Ayers Court, Teaneck Police Chief Andrew McGurr said. Officers attempted to communicate with the man, who was alone in his apartment, but he refused to allow access or comply with their orders.

Recognizing the need for a mental health intervention, Teaneck Police requested assistance from the Bergen County Regional Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Team. Crisis negotiators and emergency medical personnel also arrived on the scene as authorities evacuated nearby apartments and established a secure perimeter.

Negotiators worked to de-escalate the situation and convince the man to exit peacefully, but their attempts were unsuccessful. Eventually, officers made a forced entry and safely took the man into custody without incident.

Sources say the scene had cleared as of 11 a.m.

The individual was taken to New Bridge Medical Center for medical and mental health care. No injuries were reported, and no charges were filed.
